this summer i had the opportunity to take engagement pictures for jed's sister, kara and her fiance, ben. a month ago they got married! just a few weeks ago i was lucky enough to spend a beautiful saturday morning taking pictures to celebrate the engagement of jed's other sister, gina. kyle and gina are getting married in this spring and i couldn't be more excited for them!

my energetic little man turned two at the beginning of september and i never blogged about it! he is my talkative little sidekick, loves pretending, is sensitive, kind and wants to be just like his big sister. our families joined us in celebrating him with a little party. it also gave me the opportunity to try my hand at making some elmo cake pops.

September is here and quickly flying by, so before we get any further away from summer, here's a little window into our summer vacations. In July we were in Bethany Beach for a week with jed's family.

At the beginning of August we spent a week with my family at raystown lake. We're so blessed to have two wonderful families!

last weekend we had a few wonderful days away with our friends duane and kelly in ocean city, nj (duane and jed's valentine's day gift for kelly and i)! i forget how refreshing it can be to not be up at the crack of dawn with kids. we're so blessed to have two wonderful sets of parents that were willingly to keep our kids while we were away even though they were sick!! two of my highlights... a windy walk on the boardwalk and goofy faced polaroid pics.

i think the kids are as anxious as i am for nicer weather. we spent some time 'puddle jumping' in the driveway last week and took a long walk around town yesterday. honestly, i feel like a different person as winter becomes spring each year (silly i know, but true)!

i've been feeling cooped up in the house these last few weeks, but yesterday brought us temps in the 50s and i was thrilled! lillie turned 4 this weekend and i'll post some birthday pics soon, but in the meantime....here are a few of both kiddos. (the last image is at great grandpa's bday party.)

these images are a tad old (hopefully i'll be done playing catch-up soon), but i thought still worth sharing. at the beginning of january, we decided that it was time for miles' first buzz cut. it took me several days to get used to it....not that i didn't like it, it just changed his looks so much! he was such a good sport (i'm sure the popsicles helped).

one of the most exciting things for us so far in 2011 has been lillie starting weekly ballet classes at hempfield rec center! four girls from our church are also in the class, so it's been a great way for her to get to know them better. this is something she's been talking about for more than a year and it's been so fun to watch her excitement in pursing something she's interested in! this image is of her waiting for the first class.

we took advantage of some warmer weather a week or so ago and let the kids out to breath. i definitely don't love that cooped up, almost claustrophobic feel of winter. but i do love how much my kiddos seem to enjoy each other. lillie is becoming a protective big sister already and miles watches her play with fascination and the excitement of adventures to come.

i didn't document christmas as thoroughly as last year, it seems that i mostly ended up with pictures of lillie [big surprise]. after enjoying two days at a little camp hebron cabin to celebrate our anniversary [4 years!], we spent christmas eve day with my family. we missed having ben with us, but loved having some time to talk with him on the phone. lillie's favorite presents of the day were a bumble bee pillow pet that she named rudolf ["because he has a red nose like the reindeer"] and a ballet outfit. she was also delighted to be a helper and open miles' presents for him.

for my one hundredth post on this blog, i thought i'd take a little look back. what a difference a year makes! last weekend we had our second annual cookie day and i was amazed and amused at how much has changed in the last twelve months. check out how much lillie has grown up (the first image is from last year). i was also totally unaware that i was pregnant at this time last year...and yet here we are, so happy to have miles in our lives. i can't believe he's over three months old already! enjoy...we did!

i'll admit that there have been some stressful moments around our household lately as we're trying to get back on track with potty training (major regression when miles was born) and are continuing to adjust to life as a family of four. that said, time is flying, miles will be 10 weeks old tomorrow and i'm less than three months away from having a 3 year old. i want to cherish this time. lillie's imagination continues to grow daily and she's getting better at playing by herself (or with her imaginary friends). miles is smiling, cooing, and kicking up a storm...melting my heart. so in the moments of stress and chaos i want to be able to stop and remind myself how much i love them.
and let me do something that i don't often do here...recommend a movie. jed and i went to see where the wild things are a few weeks ago and i was utterly captured by it's honesty. go see it, remember how to feel like a child. here are my wild things...

it's hard to believe that it has been nearly two weeks since our son arrived! miles samuel was born on 9.9.09 at 9 am. He weighed in just short of 9lbs at 8lbs 14oz and 21 inches long. we are again so amazed at the miracle of new life! it has been an interesting two weeks as jed, lillie and i have all been battling colds, but we certainly can't complain...miles has thus far been a very content baby, our families have been extremely helpful, and lillie's adjustment (while there have been a few bumps) to being a big sister is going fairly well!

all summer long we'd been waiting (especially lillie) for the first week of august to arrive. now it has come with it's relaxation and sunshine, and gone. lillie is at a wonderful age for exploring the newness of the beach, was almost too brave in the water, and loved being doted on my her grandma and grandpa burkholder, her aunts (and their boyfriends), and her great-grandparents as well (in addition to mom and dad). here's a window into our week of vacation.

jed's cousin, kristina got married at the end of july, which provided some wonderful time with extended family members. jed's newest cousin, beulah is five months old and it was our first time meeting her as well!

the first weekend of june was my family's summer staycation. we were sad that ben couldn't join us, but we managed to enjoy ourselves anyway. the highlight of the weekend for most of us (perhaps especially lillie) was our trip on saturday to the strasburg railroad. the following photos are mostly from that adventure. we also made a trip down memory lane to dottie's (in quarryville), relaxed together, played dominoes, and had a fabulous cookout saturday evening. thanks for the wonderful weekend!

two weekends ago we spent the weekend in bethany beach with several friends of ours. come september, we will have six kids between the three couples. but we went to the beach almost completely childless (the exceptions being kelley and darryl's 3-month-old son, jonathan and of course, our little baby bump). how relaxing! a big thank you to our wonderful parents who made it possible!

last wednesday we had our second ultrasound and found out that we're having a healthy baby boy! we feel so blessed that he looks healthy and can't wait to see how different he is from our little princess. speaking of the princess, lillie is very excited too!

a new do

every spring i seem to want something new in the way of a hairstyle. so every year i mull over it for a few weeks trying to come up with a fabulous idea before i take the plunge. here's what i came up with this time.

i cannot wait until the days are warm and there is no need for coats. until walks are an everyday occurrence and the windows are continually open to let the sunshine in.

part of the reason that i haven't been posting too much recently is that i've been waiting to share some exciting news...yep, you guessed it, i'm pregnant again! i am around 12 weeks now which puts my due date in september. lillie will be just over 2 1/2 and is very excited for her little brother or sister to "come out". jed and i are excited to see our family grow, but are also cherishing these last moments as a family of three. i know the next six months will fly by and baby burkholder number two will be here before i know it. stay tuned for pictures of my belly as it grows and more information as we know it!

here are some of my favorites photos from our weekend at bethany beach. it wasn't that warm, but it was nice enough for a walk of two...makes me anxious for spring!

to continue celebrating lillie we had an evening at the burkholders with great grandma burkholder and great grandma and grandpa landis.

then on her birthday we headed down to bethany beach for a birthday/valentine's day weekend with the burkholders. jed, lillie and i headed down early friday morning and had some family time hanging out...we even took advantage of the indoor pool and took lillie swiming! what a relaxing weekend!

it's been more than a month since my last post and a lot has happened in that time. we now have a two year old! to start lillie's week of celebrations we celebrated with my family. it's amazing to look back at the last year to see what we've come through, how much she's changed, and how much she's learned and grown.

we went to the gathering place in mount joy for a pre superbowl lunch today to help jed's grandpa celebrate his 77th birthday. lillie ate his cake and came home with his balloon.

this past thursday i had my first official photo shoot! jed,jaime and simeon (their handsome two year old son) go to church with my in-laws and are about to have a family of four. we met at the train station to capture their anticipation for baby # two's arrival in less than a month. i just finished editing this evening and couldn't resist putting up one preview shot right away. stay tuned for some more...

on christmas day we gave lillie her presents before heading to my parents house for the rest of the day. the first three photos are from our morning by the tree. she loves her new tea set. what a little lady.
